Spring ...

... got away from me, but now that it's summer, here's a recap:

Spring and summer mean food from the garden.

Red is happy when the oranges start falling.

He and Galaxy also enjoyed our peaches, strawberries and asparagus. Galaxy even "shared" a few times, bringing me peaches and placing them gently into my hand. Too bad they were green and speckled with a few teeth marks.

There was plenty of science this past semester. XX did some research into mushroom farming so we've started a mushroom log. Check back in 6-18 months when she's hoping to have shiitakes.

There was a worm dissection ...

... and a crayfish.

We rode bikes to collect pond scum for an experiment on sealed aquatic ecosystems. It was amazing to see how much life is in just teaspoons full of stagnant water. Months later, our experiments are still sealed and still going strong.

Snap circuits on the floor had Galaxy watching closely.

Warm weather meant a first try at a cookie and lemonade stand.

A visit from Granny and Jordan was lots of fun.

Spring camp meant poor Red waited at the door to see if XX would come in when I came home alone.

We tried our hand at "tie" dying eggs (using silk ties from thrift shops).  It was so much fun, XX dyed two dozen eggs, more than we'd ever eat, so she took them around the neighborhood Easter morning, leaving surprises for our friends.

There were days for bubbles ...

... and warm, but drizzly days for fuzzy vests, hoodies and yet, flip flops.

Seeing Sandro's graduation recital for his Masters was the first time XX had been to a music concert as neither sitting still nor being up late are skills she possesses as yet. She did well though and ran down excitedly when he was done to hand him a rose and a carrot she'd picked from the garden.

The ballet performance went without a hitch. She was chosen for a small solo and did a great job.

We often took Galaxy to the nursing facility to see John. She cheered everyone up, giving plenty of kisses. She loved being petted by everyone (Red, unfortunately was quite anxious, so we left him home), and also loved watching the birds with XX.

XX received a merit certificate at Chinese school. She had a wonderful teacher and was sad to see the end of the school year.

She had a last lesson with Sandro before he went off to China for the summer.

Red has been singing. Not every piece, mind you, he has his preferences. When XX revived an old piece, one of his very favorites, he came running in to sit next to her and chortle away. He, like XX, loves a good flourish at the end of pieces.

With a little practice, who knows where he might be by the end of summer?
