It was Happy, of course. And definitely spanned more than one day.
There was the school Harvest Festival ...
... a "tricks and treats" class for the dogs in which Red was the star ...
... an art school party ...
... a holiday event with games, contests, painting pumpkins, and dancing ...
... trick-or-treating at the zoo after hours ...
... "monster-ghost" cookie baking (to take around the neighborhood ... several neighbors commented that this was the first time they'd ever received something from a trick-or-treater. XX is always up for something unusual) ...
... and pumpkin carving.
XX wanted to be a pygmy hippo and she wanted Red be a pygmy hippo with her. Her first choice was to be a kannemeyeria, a hippo-like dinosaur, but thankfully, I was able to talk her out of that.
It wasn't too hard to find a "cute" hippo costume ...
... but Red's costume was harder.
It started out as a doggy-shaped baby blanket from a thrift store,
but with a few clips and stitches, became a little hat and coat.
Galaxy went as what else? A giraffe.
I never did get a photo of all "three" of my kids, because just as we were getting ready to go out, a neighbor rang the doorbell, so we went out together. The two little girls had a great time, though I have to say, most of the fun was in the running between houses. They skipped most of the places, except those where XX wanted to be sure to give out a cookie.
Galaxy gamely walked along, but Red did not have a good time. He got frightened by a small "shark" and a "bride," barking madly. He was relieved to be home and out of his hat, though not his warm and cuddly coat.
All in all, a great Hallowe'en.
